Liz Pavey: I am a dance artist/researcher – improviser, facilitator and choreographer. I have lectured in performance at Northumbria University since 2004. I’m passionate about creating opportunities for people to experience the joy of dancing together. My work explores how moving with sensory awareness of self and human and more-than-human others can support wellbeing and foster respect for our living planet.

I am currently leading Living Stone: We are the Rocks Dancing a practice-based research project investigating how durational improvised dance can help us make sense of the immensity and rhythms of geological time through developing an embodied sense that we carry deep time within us.

Previous projects have included Take Your Seats and Green Grass. I was a founding member of the professional artists collective d.i.n.e. (dance improvisation north east).

I value working on Collaborative Projects with artists in many fields. The Other Side of Me is a collaboration between Gary Lang NT Dance Company – based in Darwin, Australia – and Northumbria University. The project is the vision and legacy of the late Dr Laura Fish.

My work is informed by theories of embodiment together with Eastern perspectives underpinning my work as a Shiatsu (Japanese bodywork) practitioner. I am a qualified Business Coach and work within Northumbria University’s Internal Coaching Network.
